MyLowe’s Rewards: Building Savings for the DIYer?

Lowe’s has long been seen as the more consumer-friendly home improvement store. While Home Depot can feel like a contractor’s playground you’re lost in, Lowe’s leans into the HGTV crowd, where your remodel dreams can be had on a budget.

Unlike Home Depot, whose reward program is for pros only, Lowe’s caters to both professionals and everyday consumers with its loyalty programs. Here, we’re looking at the non-pro optionMyLowe’s Rewards.

Does it live up to its promise? Let’s break it down.

How it works:

MyLowe Rewards is free to join and is both a point program and the gateway to Lowe’s deals and discounts.

ThreeTiers, with varying point earnings and annual spend requirements:

  • Bronze Key:  $0-$499 in spend

    • 1 pt per $1

    • Free standard shipping on $35 min order

    • Point booster promotions

    • Member-only offers and gifts

  • Silver Key:  $500-$1999 in spend

    • 1.25 pts per $1

    • Free standard shipping with no min order

  • Gold Key:  $2000+ in spend

    • 1.5 pts per $1

If you are a verified military member, you automatically start at the Silver key. 👏🏻

The spend requirements might sound steep, but Lowe’s is a big-ticket store where one bathroom reno could catapult you straight to Gold. So, fair enough, we are ok with the requirements. That said, the point bumps (a measly 25% and 50% boosts) feel stingy. And free shipping? Not exactly a headline-grabber in 2025.

MyLowe's Member deals

MyLowe Rewards has promotions and deals online, but some you have to activate.

💸 Redemption & return value:

(💡 Quick refresher: by “return value” we mean how much you save relative to how much you had to spend to earn it. For example, if you spent $100 to earn enough points to redeem $10, that’s a 10% return value.)

This is where things go as bad as old paint.   When you hit 500 points, Lowe’s auto converts the points to $5 MyLowe Money, and you only have 30 days to use it!  The 30 days wouldn’t bother us if you, the consumer, controlled the point of conversion. But when it’s automatic and the redemption window is tight, we think that’s a bad move. Especially for a brand like Lowe’s, where you might only need to go a few times a year for your remodels.

You can also only redeem $25 worth of rewards in one transaction.  This means that if you do a massive project, such as buying $3000 worth of items, you’d have to make two trips in 30 days to redeem all of them.  Not cool, Lowe’s, not cool.

The return value for your points is not complicated math, but it’s not rich value either:

  • Bronze return value is 1%

  • Silver is 1.25%

  • Gold is 1.5%

We like to see retail return values in the mid-single digits, especially for higher tiers.

The value in the program comes less from your points and more from the member deals and promotions, such as 5x points during member week.   But beware, many of these require activation, so you need to check their site often.

All retail brands have sales, and the Reward program is meant to deliver something extra.  Gating your brand’s usual discounts behind the reward program doesn’t automatically drive additional value in our opinion.

MyLowe Member Deals are shown online and are worth shopping through to find good savings.

🕵️‍♂️ Fine Print

  • Points don’t expire as long as you have activity once in 365 days

  • MyLowe's Money expires in 30 days (worth repeating)

  • MyLowe’s  Money cannot be used for Weber, Kichler, or Miele products

  • Orders made through third parties like Instacart are not eligible for earning

summary &👩🏻‍⚖️verdict:

✅ On the plus side, at least Lowe’s has a program for non-professionals, and the member promotions, deals, and discounts are good and worth activating and sifting through.

❌But the return value for your points is low, the higher-tier benefits are weak, and the restrictive redemption window bothers us.  If Lowe’s allowed, say, 3 months to use the Rewards, we would feel differently about this program. But I imagine a lot of MyLowe’s Money goes unused.

Verdict: Meh

If doing a DIY project, a home remodel, or big-ticket item, it’s worth signing up for the deals and discounts. But temper your expectations beyond that.
